With the mobile phone arena dominated by various iterations of touch screen phones, it can be hard to understand why there still is a big market for a QWERTY communicator phone. But Nokia has a long history of churning out quality phones that cater to their specific audiences. The E71 can be seen as Nokia's flagship QWERTY communicator device, and was improved upon with the launch of the E72, but the latest addition to the Nokia QWERTY family comes with the announcement of the E5.

The Nokia E5 combines all of the business-oriented features of a candy bar phone with a full keyboard, together with the integration of consumer services such as social networking support and mobile internet browsing capabilities. It also is a welcome addition with its compact but useful form factor, with its keyboard buttons being just the right size to tap out an extended text or email with your thumbs in a matter of seconds.

It also squeezes in a 5 megapixel 'extended depth of field' camera into the overall package, meaning that should you find yourself needing to capture the moment happening around you, or simply photograph the cutest cat you've found to your Facebook account, you're more than in luck.

Also included is the Nokia Email application which allows your personal or business inbox to have its emails pushed to your handset, perfect for the pay monthly businessman or the connected teen.

Nokia has also included the latest version of its Symbian operating system, which contains a notable amount of enhancements over previous versions. This includes the ability to easily connect to Wi-Fi networks at the tap of a button as well as share files over Bluetooth and the option of accessing the Ovi Store to download any applications you want. Battery life is also stellar with over 36 hours of life.

There also is the inclusion of Ovi Maps, a free GPS navigation service Nokia released last year. The Ovi Maps application allows you not only to access maps of nearly all the major countries of the world for free, it also allows you to download them to your memory card and includes the fantastic option of 'turn by turn' voice guided navigation, something that has come at a price from various competitors over the last few years. This comes in as a killer tool when out and about, as not only does it save you money as it isn't eating away at your data allowance, it also is usable wherever you are, whenever due to it being tucked away on your memory card for instant access.

The phone comes competitively priced as well, with many major networks in the United Kingdom offering the phone at a reasonable price on pay as you go tariffs, and deals usually include a more than generous data allowance, meaning you can tweet and poke to your heart's content.

The Nokia E5 definitely is a compelling product coming from the Finnish mobile phone powerhouse. Packing in all the latest features consumers are used to, it definitely caters to the youth segment with its social networking integration, whilst also for its business customers by including a line of productivity applications that are sure to help you with your daily tasks.
